Return of the King, DBSK Comes Back With 4th Album

After one year and 7 months of waiting, Korean fans of Dong Bang Shin Ki need not fret any longer for Asia’s most popular idol group are making their comeback on 24th September with their 4th album release in their homeland, Korea.

Their return also officially marks the start of the “war” against Big Bang and F.T. Island. DBSK’s 4th album is particularly meaningful for it’s release comes at a crucial period of their career. After sweeping numerous awards in 2006 and becoming Korea’s best, DBSK shifted their base to the Japanese market. They gradually built up an influence and their single topped the Oricon charts for 3 consecutive weeks. Their Asia tour sold a record breaking 390,000 tickets.

With DBSK busy making a name for themselves in Japan, Big Bang and F.T. Island are argubably the only two groups that has stepped up and posing some threat to their position. With DBSK’s comeback being labeled as “Return of the King”, many are anticipating fireworks as they vie for supremacy.

  7. I think it’s obvious that DBSK is gonna top the charts. They have a huge fanbase, the largest in the world, and that’s just official fans. People have been waiting for their comeback in Korea for a year, so I don’t think there’s really any competition at all for them. DBSK Hwaiting! I really can’t wait for their album to come out, so many preorders already! Isn’t it a new record in korea?

  9. will they be in direct competition with WG? because there’s only one award on Inkigayo a week, one award on music bank a week, etc…. so if DBSK wins those, obviously WG won’t be…

  15. The pre-orders for the album is already off-the charts 🙂 And since DBSK has officially over 1 million fans (850k cassie + 150k bigeast), the Kings are definitely coming back.

    Just like the king of all idol groups….
    Have to say they’re the first group caused idol fever after the old school days.
    I don’t think we should talk about their music, they’re not the one who decided or composed it.

    Anyway, i wanna see them destroying k-pop scene with their stormy return…. N of course eliminate other idol group. Was a fan but Not a big fan of them anymore.
    However, i love SM FAMILY so gotta support them.

  37. well it seems everyones hyped up since they’ve been away for a long time so its understandable. I’ve actually avoided DBSK music coz i though it would be like suju style (aka crap). But i want to see what their like so i’m anticipating their comeback!

    i have to say that Dong Bang Shin Ki has to come first
    they introduce me to KPOP
    and if you are going to insult them
    just listen to their LIVE
    especially the acapella one.
    i am in the national chorus group.
    and i can see that their tuning is undoubtedly perfect.
    BigBang live is great…with so much fun and energy[i’ve witness it with my own eyes, ears and body]
    But DBSK’s one is incredible…diffirent feelings…like it’s more mature and beautiful
    Bigbang makes me smile.
    But DBSK makes me cry.

    they have grown so much in Japan
    Can’t wait
    i am even more excited with this than the Bigbang Stand Up album.

    Big bang and FT Island are not in DBSK’s league especially FT Island…one thing is for sure, with all the Cassies backing them up and their 1 year and 7 months away from the Korean music scene…all the hype it costs just their teaser video…anyone except if it’s SG Wannabe would be crash down…even WG…

  54. I’m sorry, but NO ONE is able to top DBSK. Only the album sales alone are a big giveaway already. Not to mention all comeback performances and the awards they’re gonna get. This is really gonna blow away Big Bang and FT Island.

  55. to be honest im not really into boysband either. at first i was hesitant to listen dbsk, and then i coincidentally listened to their acapella, i was so amazed!! they are really talented, they can really sing! i tried to listen to big bang and ft island, but i failed to understand their music ): listen to dbsk’s acapella and their japanese song then you’ll understand that they are more mature than being a teenager boysband. hail the king!!!! (:

  59. i don’t think dbsk should be compared to other groups like big bang and ft island because for one, the three of them are of different genres.

    second, the three of them are great groups in their own ways. they’re just totally different. and the experience dbsk have is just waaaayyyy far from the other two, don’t you think?

    i was also surprised that someone compared them also to shinhwa. i mean, shinhwa’s like a legend already, in all sense of the word. they’ve had their own share of popularity and their league is way above the other three, especially in seniority.

    i love dbsk and big bang but on different lights because they’re just soo different from each other. and i’m pretty sure both of them would wow listeners and fans.

    *i don’t think they’re the same as suju either…suju’s music sounds a little childish if compared to dbsk’s more recent songs. but no offense meant to that. they just sound really different from each other.

  62. bigbang has had their time to shine tho –
    i mean within a month, they accomplished some amazing things with haru haru and their “stand up” album.
    and they’re still going strong right now!

    so even if dbsk take over the charts,
    im still extremely proud of BB =)

  64. Um DBSG isn’t even as big as Shinhwa or Hot, a bit silly to call them the kings when they’re still in Hot’s shadow as far as fans and album sales go…they’re okay though, the only one I like or can even tell apart from this group is Jaejoong.

  67. @ Lina: I’d say DBSK (or any other boyband) will never quite have the same impact H.O.T did on kpop (and even korean society if you wanna stretch it)…because H.O.T went beyond being an “idol” group and they seemed to really believe in what they were singing about. I don’t see DBSK ever having the same impact simply because they don’t have that amount of creative control over their songs…it’s a case of “SM tells us want to sing so we sing it” with them.

    😡 that said, I don’t believe DBSK is in anyway in H.O.T, G.O.D (why does everyone leave them out?) or Shinhwa’s “shadow” when it comes to things like album sales and fans. You have to consider that the korean music industry’s been in a huge slump because of internet downloading and what-not, so it’s much harder to sell the 400k that popular groups used to easily sell 8-10 years ago. :p if you take a look at old record charts, there are a lot, a lot of artists who broke the 200k mark. These days, the number of artists who break even the 100k mark are few and far between.

    Just take DBSK’s biggest “rivals” in the kpop industry…Suju and Big Bang. Neither group has presently sold more than 150k, nor has SNSD. SS501 struggles to sell more than 50k. Even the popular Wondergirls has never sold more than 100k for any release (although they’ve only had 3)…

    Bah I rest my case. I just hope DBSK stays active in Korea for a longer period this time around. In 2006, they really pulled a fast disappearing act…

  70. I don’t see what’s the big fuss about these guys. I used to like them, but then their song getting weird and blah. I don’t know. It is so weird how people worship them so much and i believe there will be a religion called DBSG later on in Korea.. King? God? There will only be 1 GOD in my life.. their preview of new song, sucks. typical SM.

  74. it´s true.. while my great dongbang love were in japan I started to fall for bigbang and FT island.. so it truly is messing up in my mind right now when dongbang is coming back. I wonder which side I´ll mostly be on… it´ll depend on the music they´re gonna release I´ve decided.. if the music is crappy then I think I´ll leave the great love and convert to bigbang.. it sounds awful but my sincere feeelings about this.
