Casting for Korean Hana Yori Dango to be Extended

Group Eight announced today that they would be extend the casting process for the Korean Hana Yori Dango which will be shown on KBS2TV in January 2009. According to someone from Group Eight this morning, the casting process which was supposed to end before August would be extended by 1 month and the official casting list would be announced on 28th August (subject to change).

Following news earlier this year that there would be a Korean Hana Yori Dango, everyone has been particularly concerned with who would be casted as F4. There were also rumors in June that SS501 leader Kim Hyun Joong has been confirmed for the drama but this was later denied to be true.

According to someone from Group Eight in July, although the possibility of picking from Korean idol groups for the drama is high, but no one has been confirmed for any roles yet. The spokesperson added that 80% of current popular idol groups members have taken part in the auditions.

The spokesperson said, “We are happy that the Korean Hana Yori Dango is receiving lots of attention but we are also feeling the pressure of delivering on their expectations. So in order to make sure we have the best person for the roles, we decided to extend the casting process. There will not be any impact to the filming schedule since the drama would only start airing next year.”

  2. Woah. I’m definitely excited for this. If that many idols auditioned, I’m wondering who’ll be casted. Anticipation is a killer.

  5. All the DBSK guys would be great in that drama. The only problem would be to pick who would play who.

  6. I’ve watched the Japanese and Taiwanese versions of Hana Yori Dango (Meteor Garden) so I wondered when Korea would come out with its own version. So I am eagerly awaiting this drama

  7. that’s so exciting!!!!!! I would’ve liked that Hyunjoong was one of them xD, but there are so many great korean artists that it must be hard to choose. Oh the pressure is on, I feel bad for them already haha, but i’m sure it’ll come out fine =]

  9. i think it’d be great if idols played the hanayori dango boys. hopefully they will have the acting skills.

    i don’t know who junsu would play, he’s just too cute.

  10. hahaha, i would love to see kim heechul acting in this drama for some reason… i think he has the jerk attitude and cockiness LOL.. but i’m really hoping this would be good as the japanese one or even better. i’m stupid excitted for it!

  11. since someone did a dbsk cast, they actually fits in their role really good, anyways I will do a suju cast just for fun:

    I only watched the Chinese one, so I’m just matching up the personalities of how characters were portrayed in Meteror Garden with how the members are in real life:

    Jerry (Domyoji) – Heechul
    Vic (Rui)- Kyunhyun/Kibum/Donghae
    Ken (Sojiroh) – Kibum/Hankyung
    Vaness (Akira) – Kangin/Siwon/Eunhyuk

    lol it’s harder to choose from 13 than it iss from 5…

    I’ll be fine with whatever cast, as long as it’s as good as the Japanese and Taiwanese versions.

  22. If they do cast an idol please make sure this individual can act. I think it would be pretty cool if the leader of F4 was a new comer with good acting skills and the other 3 F4 members were idols. That would be something wouldn’t it.

    i’d love to see yoon eun hye playing the girl part. she’s experienced in that kind of role. it’ll be awesome.

    i have a sneaking suspicion that they’re waiting for dbsk to make their comeback before deciding…. but. that could be just me.

  29. I would absolutely love it if they casted one of the boys from TVXQ, or more…but I feel that chance is very unlikely. They’re busy topping the Oricon chart and making their new Korean album, right? I see one, two, or maybe the entire leading male cast to be played by the SuJu boys. But who to choose? Si Won is a must, that’s for sure!

  32. For me, I think hyunjoong fits the role as Hanazawa Rui perfectly. He’s humorous but not noisy and kinda quiet, has the same charismatic feel as Hanazawa Rui. I want Hyunjoong to be Rui!! For domyouji… don’t really think there’s anyone who fits 😡
