Kwon Sang Woo Quits My Love By My Side Movie

The production company behind the movie My Love By My Side announced today that it’s original male lead Kwon Sang Woo has quit the movie and broken the verbal agreement that he had given them initially. The production company has thus no alternative but to look for a replacement male lead.

According to a representative from the production company, Kwon Sang Woo has only recently expressed that he would like to drop out of the movie. The representative expressed, “We reached a verbal agreement with Kwon Sang Woo on 23rd September and with filming set to start soon, he has suddenly expressed that he would like to quit the project. As we have already inked the contract with other cast members and production staff, we can’t cancel the entire movie filming. We can only look for a replacement now. Because of Kwon Sang Woo’s decision, the investors and us are likely to incur a huge loss.”

My Love By My Side was to be director Park Jin Pyo’s new movie after having directed You Are My Sunshine and Voice of Murderer. The movie had already generated great interest when Ha Ji Won and Kwon Sang Woo were confirmed as main leads. But some have already questioned whether Kwon Sang Woo was suitable to play the leading man who was suffering from Lou Gehrig’s disease (progressive neurodegenerative disease) as he had a buffed body.

According to sources, Kwon Sang Woo’s sudden u-turn might be due to the fact that he felt that he might not be able to act out this role well.

  1. If he doubted his own skills, he should have dropped out much earlier. If he took the criticism into consideration, he would’ve worked on toning down the muscles. I mean, a real actor would do a lot of research and put effort into making the role perfect prior to filming.

Now look what he’s done…he just everyone hanging.

  2. he must have a good reason for dropping out.
he won’t be doing that if he didn’t have one.
i’m sure it was a hard decision to make.
i still wish him the best.
and i still look forward to his future projects.
    there’s tough competition going on,
Song Seung Hun’s East of Eden is on top of the
rating now, and So Ji Sub is coming up with a
promising project too. They’re all friends and
i’m sure they support each other.
And it’s childish accusing the wife, that’s way too low.

By the way, SSH, SJS and KSW are all my favorites.
I’m glad they all doing really good now.
I’m so happy seeing them often on TV and Movies too.

  3. He should have thought this well before accepting the role! He has such a great body (his body is to die for!!) and it took so many years to develop such muscular body so it’s really hard to portray a thin sickly body no matter how talented you are in acting!

As much as I respect his decision, I’m still disappointed in him for his dropping out like that. I do not blame his wife. I just thought he should have been more professional on this matter. That’s all!

  4. something doesn’t add up here. the latest news is media wants a scandal to report, & production company’s at fault for lacking the total budget. KSW’s agency claims it’s in limbo, he hasn’t declined.

they say he’s lost 10 kg & studied the script, but the PR up til now said he “will” lose 30 kg – it’s a disease like stephen hawkin’s got!!

with a month left before crank-in, how is he able to lose 20 kg more?

it makes sense that he chickened out the last minute too. the last time he played disabled guy on crutches was in ’06 movie with kim ha-neul. it was alright for a light rom-com. but this is heavy-duty drama and tearjerker. he still looks too healthy for such a terrible disease.

  5. I don’t get this!!!

I thought this project was from Kwon Sang Woo’s production company!!! He already lost weight for this film and Ha Ji Won agreed to act along side with him…

    Weird, is this official?

  6. Geezz…, what’s wrong w/ him?

I think the production team should ask Jo In Sung to be a leading actor for this movie and I’m sure it’s going to be great one since Ha Ji Won & Jo In Sung had great chemistry on Memories in Bali. Moreover, Jo In Sung has lost so much weight due to his recent movie and he just finished shooting.

  7. When I see HJW’s name I think of JIS too. And he definetely has the body and acting skills to act out such disease. (or so.. just my opinion) KSW is a good actor and i wish he took in more time to listen to any criticism and prove them critics wrong that he actually can PLAY the role. Anywhooo.. It really is kinda unprofessional for him to drop the movie last minute. If he really had a good reason, I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt.

  8. YA ya, ZOOMZ,i was thinking abt that too,Jo in sung did mention that he wanted to work wif her again aft MOBali. He is just right for the role at the moment since he has to lost weight for another role ,CHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERS!!!!!!!!!!!!
