The Twins fanclub event started at 1pm as they had a gathering with 100 over fans playing all sorts of games and having fun. The press conference started at 2.15pm and ended rather abruptly in just under one minute but Gillian Chung was all smiles during the entire event from start till finish. Hello everyone! Happy Chinese New Year! The scandal has been a great deal of hurt for me and the people around me. I just think this was an unfortunate situation. No matter how famous the person, how big of a celebrity they are, how much they are paraded around in the public eye, what two people do behind closed doors shouldn’t need to be exposed to the entire world to see. They’re actors/actresses/singers, whatever. That’s their job. Once the concerts are over, the press conferences are done, the lights are off, the make up is off, they are just regular people. They go home and they have dinner. They have family and friends and love lives and sex lives. I dont care if she looks “fake” or “sincere” while apologizing…I don’t even think she really has anything to apologize for. This was really a case of the public exploiting her. They didn’t go looking to be exposed like that. Celebrity is all about image. Look at Gillian, do you really think she has the choice of not going with an “innocent” persona? The girl looks like she’s 14. Even when she’s giving head she looks like a damn minor. Her and her management company are simply playing on her assets and what comes most natural to people when they look at her. Just because she sells an image of innocence, doesn’t mean she can’t be a bit naughty. For christ sake, she’s an entertainer, not mother theresa!
If people like you can’t separate someone’s work from their real life then I think you have real issues. She didn’t take those pictures for you or I or the entire world to see. It’s something that belonged to her and her partner that was STOLEN and put on display for the entire world to ridicule. If you somehow find that that is her fault, I don’t know what to say. Right, all parties involved asked to have their lives ruined. It’s a moment of passion, people. We all do crazy, stupid things. But not all of us have to deal with apologizing for our stupidity in front of 100 video recorders, 200 screaming fans, 300 photographers, and now thousands of other skeptical pricks like yourself.
PErsonally, I rather her smile through the apology than to cry her way through it. With the whole fiasco of her being secretly taped while changing, that was totally uncalled for and it violated her in every way. It was okay for her to cry through that. But in this apology, a smile is a tough thing to brave and it shows that she isn’t trying to play the victim thing here. Shes acknowledging her part in the whole ordeal and shows that she’s not trying to pull another insincere crying spell on the audiences. Give them a break. Haven’t enough lives been ruined by this?

i dunno, i kinda disagree. if a celebrity was more human, they prob wont be celebrated but criticized instead. she has her responsibilities as a role model and i think this was a good statement to make. i mean common! if she all she did was bawl her eyes out/ feel sorry for herself/ blame edison then it wouldn’t be much of a statement…..
The point is, all the celebs involved are rolemodels who kiddies throughout Asia look up to. Hence the squeaky clean images… and no matter what they do or say to cover up, those images are still out there. Do we really want kiddies growing up thinking that it’s completely okay to take such raunchy photos, and engage in such acts with men? The adultsinvolved may be adults… but the kids who look up to them and strive to copy their actions are just kids!

Why I really don’t admire her is because she neither has talent or any actual skill at all. Like ‘sohoxx’ said, Gillian is a vase. Because she’s pretty, so she has vast amounts of admirers and can be very influential to youngsters and the whole community. Its not that I don’t see people shouldn’t have separate lives from work its just because of her work there are still limits to she can and supposed to do.

Yes, you’re right, the photos belonged to Edison and they eventually got stolen from him. But that doesn’t mean she didn’t fully give consent and participate in them. And true, they might have been done in a moment of passion but that’s the harsh reality of the world. When you’re have such a high reputation and responsibility for society (not just hong kong but a whole lot of asia) you only get one chance and there are simply some mistakes you can’t afford. Okay, perhaps another very rubbish example but think, if Donald Tsang got such photos leaked out? How will we ever expect him to represent hong kong again?
My point is, I quote you, ‘celebrity is all about image’, she has an image to live up to that’s expected by many people around her (esp her fans) to change this place into a better community whatever. Many of her fans are still very young say, even around age 10. A sex life is totally normal but to have photos posted around like this…I mean what if twelve year old youngsters follow her actions because they think Gillian did it so its okay to do it. You will say its not her fault because the photos got stolen. but the photos won’t be there in the first place if she didn’t take them. So maybe she did them in the heat of passion but I’m sure there are many ways to delete them completely without chance of being restored…if she gave a rats ass about anybody but herself. Just think about it…would you want your (future) daughter to look up to her and follow her actions?
Besides, if it is such a normal and accepted thing in the whole Asian community why is it made such a big deal then? Why do the stars have to go into hiding? Why doesn’t Gillian face up to it straightaway and say; “HELL YEAH I did them, I think it’s very normal! I promote safe sex! Peace!” haha…why go through all the damn trouble denying them and saying they’re fake? That’s because she realises (finally) that she DOES have an image to live up to and even out of work time, she can’t go around taking nudey pictures like us normal people can. Maybe in this sense I feel sorry for her. But then again, being a star has lots of its advantages too.

celebrities already have to watch what they’re doing everywhere they go, why should they need to do watch what they do in the bedroom too? why shouldn’t they be allowed to take whatever sorts of pictures they want of themselves? they have the right as human beings, and especially in the most private of places like in a bedroom situation, why should them having an image to live up to govern that? i don’t think everyone should be expected to be work addicts, and criticized so harshly just because they made a mistake. i don’t think it’s fair for anyone of us to decide what these celebs should do and how they should do it. and those who can only ridicule gillian and call her all sorts of names, during a situation such as this when she is clearly a victim.. i can only find that too immature.

Look, I’m not a fan of hers or any of these people involved either. I’m just trying to look at it as a stand alone case. I understand that celebrities are influential people. But if kids who see this go out and have sex or have sex and tape it just because Gillian, edison, celicia or bobo did, that’s kind of beyond the control and scope of what celebrities are liable for. When do we stop blaming celebrities and start asking the question of “good parenting?” I can understand how a celebrity is in a movie and you want to run out and watch it, or how they endorse a product and you want to run out and buy it, but I don’t agree with a celebrity is having sex so I’m going to go out and do it. If someone does and is influenced by the personal aspects of a figure who happens to be a public figure, they just have their own issues to deal with, mainly self-esteem, the separation between reality vs fantasy worlds. I don’t see that it’s the responsibility of these people to maintain social order to that extent. When was the last time you were influenced by someone you dont even know on a personal level? What you are talking about is part of a bigger problem and that is people putting celebrities on a pedestal and then creating their own illusion and standard for them to act according to. Let’s face it…we are all enjoying this whole debacle because there’s a part of us that relishes in watching someone fall from grace. That’s human nature. We build them up to bring them down.
